Continuing on the theme of money for our free book giveaway we decided to gift a copy of our friend Mark Boyle's Moneyless Manifesto. Mark is an awesome writer and speaker who has dedicated many years to writing & talking about our relationships & embedded philosophy of money as well as demonstrating how to live well without participating in a degenerative economy. Mark lived completely without money in England for two and a half years which formed the basis for his first book, The Moneyless Man. He is also the founder of Freeconomy, an alternative economy which has local groups across 171 countries. Mark very kindly came as a guest speaker to a PDC we ran near Bristol, UK, back in 2012 and together with his partner Jess (who is also an awesome writer) is currently in the process of creating a fully localised, land-based gift economy in Éire which will demonstrate how all the ideas and practical solutions described in The Moneyless Manifesto can be integrated into one holistic system design. "The revolution before us is only worth joining if it goes to the depths that Mark has explored . . . it is my hope that this book will deepen its readers’ belief in the possibility of such a world." Charles Eisenstein, author of Sacred Economics Mark and his publishers, Permanent Publications, are also offering this book free online but we thought some folks might like the chance to get their hands on a copy. Mark explains why he is offering a digital copy of the book freely; "First, the ideas and practical tools contained within it should be free to whoever may find them useful, and not made falsely scarce by the mechanisms of the monetary economy. Second, just as actions display our beliefs more honestly than our words, the ways in which ideas and practical tools are shared are at least as important as the words themselves. I wanted the medium to be fully aligned with the message. Third, I wanted to release it under a Creative Commons licence because it felt fraudulent to have my name on the front of this book. As I said in the acknowledgements page of my last book, what are my words but “an accumulation of all that has come before them – the people I have met, the books I have read, the songs I grew up with, the rivers I’ve swam in, the girls I’ve kissed, the movies I’ve watched, the traditions I’ve learned, the philosophers I’ve studied, the mistakes I’ve made, the violence I’ve seen, the love I’ve witnessed.” The ideas in this book could be no more mine than the piece of the Earth I inhabit." We really appreciate the integrity behind Mark's and Permanent Publications work. You can also buy your own copy through Mark's website. Money is a sticky subject for a lot of people, and we totally support people empowering their relationship to different forms of capital, whatever that looks like! Want to get a copy of this awesome book? Comment below on how you think you would benefit from a copy and we will pick a lucky winner at the end of the week (20th Dec) and post you a copy. i was struck by what your said about land, and being an artist. I am living as a yogi and mom and have just realized i want to travel and teach and lighten my load as my son is off to college--any room on the land for some travelers and sustainable farmers and campers?

Anita, I loved what you said, and going for goal of planting a forest garden and living sustainably! I love it and yes, you are strong, and willing and not lazy! That's for sure. I am much older, have raised my son and now feeling like doing what you saying--work away-travel, spend less and do more. Take it easy without guilt and truly feeling compassionate and in action about what I love and, as a friend said, have spent already over 10,000 hours doing.

I would certainly love a free copy of the book, but the greatest benefit (and best way to illustrate the 'gift economy') would come through making a gift of the book to the community run Friern Barnet Library (http://www.friernbarnetlibrary.org/) where it can continue to be gifted ever after ;-)

What I would do with this book, if I were to receive it, is share it with my son and daughter who are 12 and 9, respectively ;) educating the next generation is so crucial when it comes to subjects such as these. Marks' stories are truly an inspiration and ones I know my children would respect and enjoy!

I'm delighted that Mark has chosen to return to Ireland and continue to embody his moneyless manifesto. The people of Ireland during the Celtic Tiger got carried away by a consumer driven society with it's materialistic desires and obsession for growth. Now the country calls out for a new way as they realize a need for change. I, like Mark wish to inspire people to collaborate and participate in this change from a community level and would love a copy of his book to fuel my inspiration.

It's very funny that today I saw this book to be given away and the first thing I saw was my friends post about a movie called: Living without money. It's just funny because yesterday I had my worst day of my days of thinking about money, taxing and the system around me. And in the morning it just hit my eyes and my mind even twice, that yesss, it is possible to forget all my bothering thoughts about finances and start what I really want to do with my life. Which is definitely not to get in the line and work for a "living" because in my mind it's not what life supposed to be. Maybe some may say I'm a dreamer or lazy, but is it really is to to what you feel you want and like to do? I don't want to sell my skills to corporate people so they can make more money. I'd like to be part of amazing and sustainable projects like Ridgedale Permaculture or Sepp Holzer's farm or any other from the growing amount of permaculture projects worldwide. I want to learn as much as I can and plant as much as I can and really working on my future blog as much as I can to help others to join. But the thing was always somehow in my mind: I don't have money, how can I do this? Some days I forget about it and I feel carefree and happy, but some days when I have to write a bill for eg. it's just coming back again and I just want to get rid of these bothering thoughts stopping me from acting as I should.

I will be returning to WWOOFING in the spring and will not have access to the internet to look up tips so a hard copy of the book would be indispensable to me.

I heard about Mark Boyle for the first time today. What a coincidence! I'm the mother of boy/girl twins. My son has autism. As an autism parent and advocate, I'm looking for ways to provide a sustainable future for my son and hope for an autism community of parents who are sick with grief. I believe community and sustainable living practices hold the answers for our futures. My dream is to create a non-profit permaculture farm that employs autistic adults to farm and sell local organic produce to the community at large. Until I can make vision a reality, I realize we will have to live with as little to no money as possible. I look forward to bringing other families onto our land some day and sharing methods and ideas for getting away from the corporate US economy. I believe I have much to learn from Mark's book. Also... I would love to blog about the book on our website Thinking Moms' Revolution. We have a following of 17,000. Please visit the website and find us on FB.

With my family I run a permaculture project where we host courses and invite volunteers to join us in order to learn more about self reliance, permaculture and just living in a different way. So far we've been joined by about 700 different people from all over the world. Mark's book is one that I've been recommending to visitors since I read it myself when it was first published, but as we don't have unlimited internet most don't follow up on my suggestion. It would be fabulous to have a paper copy of the book to add to our library of suggested titles, and spread the moneyless word!

Acquiring this free book would benefit me greatly as I have been unemployed for 3 years due to a work related fall. I have not received approval for disability, nor a court date to receive any information as to what my status on funds will/not consist.

We are promoting off-the-grid sustainable and resilient lifestyles in the Himalayas. We encourage the locals to introduce diversity into their agriculture, reduce reliance on big government / pharma / international corporate "hand-outs", and develop alternative streams of income and livelihoods without the heavy reliance on the "cash economy". Your book free offer stands to be utilised as a reference tool and teaching tool to strengthen our work.

Using this book I would try to create a self sustainable community in my home town. I know a lot of young adults and teenagers who are struggling to find work even the ones who have degrees. Like me they are disenchanted with the current monetary system which is making it harder and more stressful to survive. Food banks are increasing dramatically and I want to offer an alternative. I want to set up a community space that is entirely self sufficient using permacutlure principals. A place where the buildings are made from clay and recycled materials, where food can be grown in abundance and shared within the community and where learning how to live in an organic, ecologically friendly way is paramount.

My boyfriend is currently stuck in the rat race while I stay home raising our 10 month old twin boys in San Diego, CA. We dream of moving to the country and off the grid before our boys are old enough to remember the city. It seems our cost of living is so close to his income, we barely have any money saved to get out! I need more ways to live on the cheap so we can get away and raise our kids the way they should be raised, focusing on living, not slaving to make some greedy salesman rich! I would love to read your book! Thank you

I am interested to read this book, because I have been living without money for the last forty years. What essentially means, that I do never anything for money reasons. When I bought land forty years ago, then that was the last for that I spend money, from then I was living without 'earning' money. I just received what I needed. Not only for myself, but also for about twenty people, who were living with me, as my intention was to live with a group of 'friends' with similar ideas about life style, goals and values. But after several years it turned out, that people were using the offered space just for their survival needs, without worry about money. But they were not interested to get out of the trap of their mindset and still were clinging on common fake goals and values. So I had to tell them to look for another place. They finally all left. That's now three years ago and we are living here only with three people. Having living space for 25 and all resources. It seems not possible to find people who are interested to share our intention and some times the thougt shows up to give up this place, as it needs at least six people to maintain every thing, as there are many plants and animals to be taken care of... Apart of this we have other activities, that are more essential, like writing and making videos, with that we want to spread information that can help people to get out of their suffering, when being caught within the social system, helpless

Hello, I have spoken about you to my students a couple of times and we all wonder how you can live totally without using money. In these times of the government stealing our pension money, your way of living is something we all should seriously look into. I teach adults with Diverse Abilities part time and absolutely love it! Even though some of them will never be able to live totally on their own, the ones who can can learn from your experience as can the ones who wont. I hope you have a fantastic day and keep smiling! Marianne
