We're busy constructing what we think will be the most extensive and comprehensive online training for folks looking to start their own profitable regenerative agriculture. We're passionate about Making Small Farms Work, and this training builds and extends on our book and dedication to helping others get started on their pathway. We've filmed over 100 clips in the field as well as a bunch of whiteboard based lectures and computer based tutorials, created customizable planning and business spreadsheets and a whole load of other resources.

The training will revolve around the pragmatic approach we have towards designing, installing, managing and monitoring our own successful operations. We're in a very challanging cilmate from a geographical, economic and regulatory standpoint. Whilst we focus on our situation, most of the content is adaptable and relevent to anyone setting out on this pathway for themselves.

We're hoping to release the training early in the new year.

If this is something that you are looking for, you can register interest by dropping us a line here, and we can contact you when the training is online. We also want YOUR input. Have a look at the overview below and let us know in the comments if there is subject matter you'd value being included in the training.

What is included?

  • Lifetime access to the members only website and Facebook group
  • Learn at your own pace and revisit video, text, links, image galleries and spreadsheets
  • Online video lectures and videos for each module shot on farm to see established design and the ways to get there
  • Downloadable text and resources for each module, legal papers, hygeine routines, etc
  • Downloadable customizable enterprise and planning spreadsheets to get you started
  • Other important links and resources
  • Access to annual video/ content updates
  • You can have a say in future updates

Investment for the training

We expect the price to be 8995.00 SEK

What are your thoughts?

We aim to keep this training as pragmatic and functional as possible. Whilst we work as professional educators and designers, we also farm for a living. We understand the importance of getting straight to the point. There is no wild abstract theoretical nonsense here, just design and implementation strategies, shared insight and planning tools to get you started on the right footing.

Please let us know if you want to be updated with the release of the training and comment below on aspects you feel are of most value to you.
Thank you so much, hope to see you on the inside!

Wow, this is such a great project! I would have loved to intern at your place and as a student without land or money the permaculture project will likely remain a dream. But it is great to see there'll be a MOOC from hands-on people who know what they're doing.

I like it, I wish something like this had been around a few years ago!
I wonder if it will be possible to just do certain modules for a lower price? I've already started so not much interest in property checklists and such, and not planning to do a meat operation so I would skip the broiler module as well...

Alan Chadwick was teaching Biodynamic horticulture in the 1970's. I have been teaching it since the 1980's. Creating balanced ecosystems in 8 countries. my book Radical Regenerative Gardening and Farming is based on 45 years of work.

I also feel like a module price would be more interesting to myself and others. Land and equipment are large investments for farmers. So $1140 CDN seems reasonable for education. However, your larger market could be people who are planning for their future? Modules might be more appropriate for them. You might consider adding essential farm equipment/tools if it's not already included somewhere?

I agree with Russ an individual modules price might fit more of us.

I find the contents very interesting and knowing your way of working they will be very in depth for sure. I would suggest as others the possibility to choose a full course or a selection of modules. The total is 12 so one could have the possibility to choose 12, 6 or 4 or 3 or only 1. I guess this could work even for future updates only on the module one followed. Of course the access to the FB group or members only site could be a problem, guess you can't give access only to some sections... This being a course directed to people getting involved in farming obviously attracts people with specific interests and educational needs, it would be very interesting to support these with flexible solutions. Other idea could be to have a special price for those that have your book. Having sold it directly you probably have a database with all the buyers so that could be interesting too.

Looks interesting, but a bit too pricey. I'm more interested in the modules listed in the pile to the right so I'll be glad if it was possible to choose which modules I want. E. g. I would like to know how multi species grazing methods works with the legislation and health authorities, food safety, animal health etc. I've asked about this to my local authorities in Finland but got no answer. same thing with vegetables. Do you have to have a approved "livsmedelslokal" to wash and pack vegetables, as we do here?

I too would find modules much easier to access. As a high school level teacher/administrator, I am looking for cutting edge courses for our motivated students. Financially, the whole MOOC wouldn't be accessible. By module, we could at least give students a taste of the area that they are passionate about. I would guess that a similar scenario might be true for many people. ie The total price would be a huge sacrifice. Being able to take one module would let them know the quality and depth of the course before "selling the farm" to take the full course.

Hi - I'm in the early stages of planning and setting up a small market garden, and was wondering if single modules will be available separately on your online course?

I love the idea of pragmatic--the tenets and principles of permaculture are all well and good, but let's get on to the real hands on stuff! I am reading books, and I have signed up for a Permaculture Design Course this summer-- still, at the moment my head is swimming with TOO MUCH INFORMATION. Keyline? Swales? Pond? Hugelkulture? Chickens? ACK! Where to start?

With a global audience I think regulations will be a difficult section. Keeping up to date on regs is also hard.
It sounds interesting and I will pass this info on.

Richard Perkins has a lot of knowledge from which you can glean. You can spend lots of time trying to learn it all yourself, or fast track it by doing the course. Well worth the investment in my opinion, which will pay back year after year!

In module 11, it would be great if you could include a section on how to make your own compost, collecting seeds, and the methods of germinating different types of seeds..

Sign me up!

My husband and I are in the process of sourcing land for our first small-scale farm in Australia, so perfect timing for us!

Pricing for the online training is a little more than I’d prefer, but a very worthwhile investment in my mind. After all, we are paying for your vast knowledge and experience not some generic “how to” guide!

Suggestions:
- Perhaps purchasing in modules over time might be more affordable for some.
- Would be great to be able to connect/network with others doing the training.

PS: We found your YouTube videos only a month or two ago and find them so inspirational - we have also just ordered your book!

Love what you're doing and the passion, innovation, honesty, humility, work ethic and commitment you display. Thank you.

Based on all of the free content that has already been published I think its an extremely fair price---- most consultants charge 100+ dollars per hour in any other business I'm guessing people think it's expensive because of all the great free information that has been provided already

I personally have invested 100,000 US into my small farm and I would gather most people moving into this type of business Land/tools etc would be similar
for me 1% of my start up cost would have been well worth the investment
Please update me !

LandBase thinks this training is just what young agoecologists need today. Alot of work has been put into its design. The price may be a bit high for some.We would be very interested in how this develops and if you have any plans to be active in the UK?
