May 1st- Aug 31st
Camping business Development and 'right-hand' person
25,000 kr/month gross + food + simple accomodation + insurance
In early 2021 I built five big decks up in the forest with the help of a friend. Two are for 9m diameter yurts, and three are for 6m diameter tipis. The role is to develop and manage this new business, working out how we do that as we go! I anticipate the role to be the primary focus of this position, but once the initial set-up is complete, it is unlikely to fill so many hours. So around this role I am hoping for someone who can also act as a kind of 'right-hand' person to me throughout the time you are here.
There are buildings to paint, ongoing grounds maintenance, general farm jobs and, importantly, I would like someone I can rely on to keep their eye on things at times when I am away teaching or travelling for short times throughout the season.
The focus for 2022 is homesteading; me and my children and up to 4 other adults, very low-key and leisurely; the farm is not in any commercial production presently. You would be one of the group, although obviously with a different role to anyone else here.
It's a new enterprise for me, so there will be an element of working things out as we go. Your role (starting in May) would be creating an AirBnB site, helping set up and install the structures, developing information brochures, etc. The aim would be to set things up that it does not take a lot of energy to host people beyond letting them know where the basics are. Campers would have use of the shared kitchen and sauna that the rest of the team use at times. Camping would be open June-end August, with the aim of booking the structures out for as much of this time as possible. You would manage the listings and bookings, orientate guests and manage the turn-around (basic laundry/ cleaning) between guests.

Who would this role suit?
This role would suit a Swedish person who either lives very locally or wants to stay on the farm for the 4 months of employment. You speak good English, and possible another language. You have a driving license. You are well presented, cheerful and communicative. You are sociable and enjoy receiving people. You are practical and handy with tools, carpentry, odd-jobs and have a self-directed work ethic. You are creative and solutions-orientated. As you will be living in close quarters around the rest of the people here for the summer, it's important you enjoy hanging out and eating together too. Sound like you? Read on....
Eating at the farm
The farm supplies a balanced diet of meat, dairy, eggs, vegetables and whole foods. Richard supplies farm raised/grown produce and 100% organic whole foods that we will buy in. During any courses meals are fully catered by a farm chef. The rest of the time, people will cook together or in rotation, with the basic expectation that everyone takes turns in basic responsibilities. If you are living on the farm then we would just ask you to join the group in cooking rotations. Bear in mind Ridgedale is a meat producing farm and we also slaughter animals here on the farm. If you are not comfortable with any of this it is probably not wise to apply.
Staying at the farm
We have a very simple room separated from the other spaces. The volunteer team share four simple rooms in the magazine. We light the sauna and bathtub daily for washing, and have an outdoor sink with hot and cold water. We have fiber optic internet with a repeater that works in the main tipi space. You can use a washing machine weekly. We have a shared kitchen in a cabin, as well as space for dining when it's cold. In the summer we tend to eat outside under the tipi's.
Receiving visitors during your stay
- Visitations should be discussed well ahead of time with the group
- Your visitors are required to contribute 150 kr per day to cover their basic costs.
- You can use the farm vehicle to pick up/drop off/ visit places (25 kr/km)
- Your visitors will need to either stay in your room or bring all they need for camping.
Vehicle
- There is a farm vehicle available for private use, everyone is responsible for maintaining the logbook and covering their costs (2.5 kr/km).
- If you can bring you own car then other members may appreciate it also!
