2025 Farm chef at ridgedale (English speaking)
Employment period is apr 25th- Sep 26th 2025
33,000 kr/month gross + food + simple accomodation + insurance
Who would this role suit?
Real food is at the heart of everyones experience at Ridgedale. Many people eat better here than they have ever done in their lives, and thats just how we want it. Many such places make vegetarian meals for guests to save money. We're the opposite. Eating is the very reason we farm, after all!
If you are into Weston A. Price sort of thinking; using whole foods, pastured meats, making stocks and creating nutrient-dense local food from scratch, along with baking, pickling, using fresh veg and farm produce and experimenting with whats around, thats great! Bear in mind Ridgedale is a meat producing farm and we also slaughter animals here on the farm. If you are not comfortable with any of this it is probably not wise to apply! The farm supplies a balanced diet of meat, dairy, eggs, vegetables and whole foods. Richard supplies farm raised/grown produce and 100% organic whole bulk foods that we buy in. You will provide breakfast lunch and dinner during weekdays and during weekends when official trainings are on. Interns will take care of the weekends when it is just staff and interns on the farm.
This role would suit a Swedish person who either lives very locally or someone who wants to stay on the farm for the 5 months of employment. English language is important, as it is the common language for all coming to the farm. Ideally you have a driving license. You are well presented, hygienic, work effectively, enjoy awesome farm meat and vegetables, plan well, are cheerful and communicative. You are sociable and enjoy receiving people! You are creative and solutions-orientated. As you will be living in close quarters around the rest of the people here for the summer, it's important you enjoy hanging out and eating together too. Farms don't work on standard 9-5 hours!
This is a busy place, and we offer some of the best educational experiences in the field of Regenerative Agriculture on the planet. We want our food and eating experiences to marry with that! Farm life is not fixed by conventional work times, and so I want to explain this role more carefully. The salary is 33,000.00 sek/month brutto, based on 160 hrs/month averaged across the season. However, due to your different roles when we have official trainings and just our intern crew at the farm, it will look different at different times. You need to fully understand and be flexible to this to take this role.
The employment period is 5 months.
-48 days of that are official courses, where you will need to cater breakfast/lunch/dinner to up to 40-50 people at times. 9 hours a day is allocated to these days.
-22 days are weekends you will have off, ie, the weekends when there are no courses are on, when interns or staff will cook meals for everyone.
-80 days you will provide a simpler breakfast/lunch/dinner for around 15 people (weekends set up by interns when no official trainings on) I allocate 5 hours a day for this.
This averages to around 6.5 hours a day across the work days, (a lower work day than all other roles on the farm!) but it depends a lot on your professionalism/planning/workflow. The job needs doing, and we compensate fairly for what we expect. It's important that you feel you can handle the job, as it is not a 'normal' setting perhaps. I can give the successful applicant a more complete breakdown of the schedule and overview of kitchen/equipment, etc, when we have reached that stage.

Staying at the farm
We have a very simple but comfortable cabin that you can share with another staff member. You will have 2 connected simple rooms as your private space, albeit in close quarters. We light the sauna and bathtub daily for washing, and have an outdoor sink with hot and cold water. We have fiber optic internet with a repeater that works in the main tipi space. You can use a washing machine. We have a shared kitchen in a cabin, as well as space for dining when it's cold. In the summer we tend to eat outside under the tipi's.
Receiving visitors during your stay
- Visitations should be discussed well ahead of time with Richard, and should not be when official trainings are being run.
- Your visitors are required to contribute 150 kr per day to cover very basic costs.
- Your visitors will need to either stay in your room or bring all they need for camping.
Vehicle
- There is a farm vehicle available for private use, everyone is responsible for maintaining the logbook and covering their costs (3 kr/km).
- If you can bring you own car then other members may appreciate it also!
Application form
If you have fully read, understand and agree to all the above information, and see it could benefit you to join us for the season, then we welcome your application. Please add a short video introducing yourself. If you are short-listed for the role we will email asking for a Zoom chat shortly after application closes.
